These headphone things are treated like some sort of symbol of authority throughout the series, but it's never explained what they're actually for.
(If you read the manga on the other hand, you will discover that they are in fact psychic amplifiers. Now I want to know why they don't get one for everyone on the ship.

Okay... I really thought I had written a review for this episode back when I originally watched it, but it turns out I didn't. And now I can't remember what happened in it at all, much less my thoughts on said happenings. So, uh.... yes.
